Hey friends,
Sorry for the delay in writing. It’s been a blur. We have had another offspring family spring right into our area. My husband drove a 26-foot moving van over freeways and mountain passes for about 18 hours to help get them to their new home here. My son-in-law drove a car with three large dogs and two of their three young kids. All these people have received medals of honor-not actual ones-but ones in my mind. #haulingheroes I flew with my daughter and her baby in a plane. #sorrynotsorry
And! A fresh, snuggly, baby boy was sent from heaven to another daughter and her husband. And, we have another dear daughter about to leave for college! I also have two more books in the contract process. It’s a lot! It’s sometimes tiring, as you know life can be…
But thanks to our old friend fear, I am currently jumpin’ on the inside! I was also offered a gig as a regular on KSL’s Studio 5. It’s a once-a-month-ish sort of thing on family (hello fellow Nana’s!) and they don’t even mind that I live far away. They are fine with remote interviews! They are also fine if I happen to be in the area to interview in the studio!
I have worked with these good KSL people before, and I have noticed a pattern: they are lovely. I mean, really-with the lights, the cameras, the actions….they are chill. They have been doing this stuff since Adam and Eve first got cell phones, probably. I’m kidding-Adam and Eve must have had dial-up.
For real-these KSL people are calm, professional, and fun.
I, on the other hand, am on. my. way. to this consistent state (*she said, convincingly… her inner deer, firmly ensconced in her headlights*).
There is even more exciting/only slightly scary news: The Rings of Power series is being rolled out!! It’s the prequel for The Lord of the Rings, and need we say more? If you love it, you love it. We have a lot of family members who LOVE it, and the exhilaration level over here is reaching epic pitch.
The first episode is tonight. There is going to be a big family watching party. The hosting daughter could get an honorary degree in hosting, and I will round out the fun with my contribution of Lord of the Onion Rings from Sonic.
I wanted these to be served from a platter resting on the arms of a stuffed Sam, but, although Amazon sells stuffed Frodo’s and even Gandalf’s, I could not find a single Sam. Sorry, Sam. But you did carry Frodo up the slopes of Mount Doom! “Come, Mr. Frodo!’ ‘I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you and it as well!”
This is my favorite line in the Lord of the Rings and my favorite scene. It is also, as it happens, the only line and scene I really know anything about when it comes to LOTR.
I watched the movie once, but I was distracted, and I have never read the books. It’s true I am not a LOTR super fan. But I am a Super Fan of the Super Fans. I love that I gave birth to so many kids who LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to chat about all of it with each other for hours. I love their love for this wonder stuff.
J.R.R. Tolkein believed in Christ. Me too! We meet there. And also on Mount Doom-with that tissue needy, sacrificing friendship between Sam and Frodo that just kills me in the best way.
Apparently, the son of Jeff Bezos asked his dad one thing concerning this epic series. The son didn’t want the dad to “mess it up.” (he used another word for “mess” that we won’t use). But the idea was, I hope, to protect the integrity and moral cleanliness of the original.
On the tiniest ring size chance that you are reading this Mr. Bezos, millions of us concur. We have enough uncomfortable, hypersexualized “yuck” in the world to fill a dumpster in the middle of another earth. Let’s keep this Middle Earth clean. Let’s make J.R.R. Tolkien happy about all this.
After I drop off the Lord of the Onion Rings. I will be munching a few while I babysit so parents can go to the watching party. I am SOOOO EXCITED for ALL!
I may even just watch some episodes too! Maybe I’ll talk about it sometime on KSL TV!
Excitement is in the air!!!
